Dinner and debriefing at cabin in woods
Sorry!!The entourage spent the night in a cabin in the woods of Grand Rapids. Were the phone lines out? Was there bear trouble? Hey, wasn't Grand Rapids the home of Judy Garland? Maybe there was a tornado and they were disappeared to OZ? Mindy would make a great Dorothy. Dorothy come back to Kansas! Yikes! No images or text have been sent via e-mail. The WebRookie will update this page if and when our lost group checks in.
Our Delegates are Found Must have been an exciting day. They finally checked in with a report. Not only did they check in, but we have our first reflection from the delegates in Spanish. Fortunately, they included an English translation below it!
Recorrimos unas 300 millas. In English:
Today we began a trip, leaving Minneapolis at 7:00am, visiting an Ojibwe
reservation where they told us a little about their history, customs and
struggles to survive. We learned that their first university graduate was
in 1975. This tribe does not discriminate against women. In fact, their
president is a woman. Before 1990, it was a very poor community. Their
government budget was 1.5 million dollars and now it is 30 million dollars.
They had various failed businesses but progress began with the
establishment of two casinos in Minnesota.
 | Then we visited Lake Mille Lacs. It is huge and full of ice and one of those
places where you can appreciate this world. One of the most important
cities in Minnesota is Duluth. We also visited Lake Superior which is the
biggest lake in the world. Later we also visited Gooseberry Falls which is
very pretty. | | | (Comment from Mindy):By the time we got to Gooseberry, the rain had turned to snow. The delegates were able to experience a bit of what winter feels like-- especially when they didn't have the right clothes or shoes for it. (Comment from Mary Beth) Those TNII'ers really know how to have a good time! We got to share a little bit of what we call winter with our buddies from TNII. We "enjoyed" Lake Superior and Gooseberry Falls through the pouring rain/sleet and gale force winds-- the kind that sent the van careening from lane to lane. Everyone loved it!The Sister Parish Committees of SJA and TNII hope you can attend as many events during the delegation as possible. |
