"The Twins or Contra Dancing?"After a hectic Friday, the delegates from Tierra Nueva Dos had an "easier" day. Only two official events were planned, a joint committee meeting and a debriefing session with Jackie. Saturday was a day for host families to show the delegates Minnesota life. At the afternoon committee meeting, the delegates shared with us how kind their host families have been. The hosts have made quite an impression on our friends from Guatemala. And yes(yea or boo??), they did it. Many of our delegates spent the morning at the Mall of America with their host families. They were so busy(or overwhelmed) that many arrived late for the 1 o'clock meeting at SJA. The meeting began with prayer and reflection from both committees. An agenda was set that was too long to finish so items were prioritized. One of the items of discussion was each groups impressions of the visit thus far. Many things were said, but a general theme involved sensory overload in a new culture. It is interesting that TNII felt exactly what our delegates talked about upon their return. To go from one distinct culture to another in 6 hours is mindboggling for many. The committees also discussed future candle sales, tomorrow's mass, and the state of committee work in each community. After the meeting, everyone took a brief walk around the neighborhood. The delegates then had a short debriefing session with Jackie before their hosts picked them up for the evening. These sessions have been important for our delegates to TNII as a way to sort through what they have seen.
Four of the delegates attended the Twins game that evening and enjoyed themselves. They wished that the Twins had won. Wonder if anyone tried to explain salaries, Carl Pohlad, stadiums, and North Carolina to them? The other half of the delegation chose to join Carol Krush, Rick Nelson(pictured with Hilda) and Vickie Hempe in an evening of contra dancing. The committees are hoping to arrange a little dancing for the farewell meeting on Easter Sunday evening in Hospitality Hall. Join us, please. After arriving home late, the delegates set their clocks ahead one hour to be ready for Palm Sunday mass. Certain SJA committee members forgot, didn't they Tim y Mari?
The Sister Parish Committees of SJA and TNII hope you can attend as many events during the delegation as possible. |
