Dinner and evening with host families A Good Friday We started the day with a visit to the Center for Victims of Torture. Doug
Johnson, the executive director talked to us about the work that they do at
the center and a bit about the effects of torture on the victims which
includes not only the person who was tortured, but their family as well -
often times many generations later are still suffering the effects. It was
a very insightful dialogue with the members of TNII adding bits that they
knew about people and projects in their own community.
We then walked along the river road to Dinky Town for lunch at a chinese
restaurant. We ordered many different things so that everyone could try
them. We even had tofu and seitan - two of Mindy's vegetarian favorites.
After that it was back to St. Joans for the Good Friday service. Hilda did
one of the readings in Spanish. Following the service we had a meeting of
the two committees. We have so many things to talk about that we talked
for an extra hour and scheduled another 2 hour meeting for Saturday! The focus of the meeting centered around successes and failures of the hermanamiento thus far. Much time was spent discussing pen pal programs as well as finances and the possibity of a joint bank account. A much easier day than some of the others, but still very enjoyable!
